Photo-Curio is a rock trio making experimental noisy pop with as much honesty as they can muster. The Chicago-based post-punk band includes Matthew Haddock (guitar), Ben Pfeifer (bass/guitar/ vocals), and Melissa Scales (drums/vocals). They met in a music workshop where they realized their varying backgrounds and artistic influences would make an interesting musical blend.
Practicing in a factory that once made commemorative photo albums (hence Photo-Curio), the band amalgamates a sound that is two parts Yo La Tengo, two parts Sonic Youth, and liberal doses of Wire and Nirvana.
Photo-Curio has mainly performed in and around the greater Chicago area, with bonus trips to Wisconsin and Michigan. They set up shop in venues such as the Hide Out and the Square Roots Festival and have been played on WGN Radio.
Their second eponymous release launched September 15, 2018, available on 10” clear vinyl and all the regular digital channels through Invertebrata Records.
Recorded in Chicago at Salt Lamp Studios and Mystery Street Recording Company during the spring of 2018. Mixed and mastered by Joe Tessone. Cover art by Matthew Haddock. 45 rpm.
