The Italian music magazine Mucchio described "Not a Memory" with the following: "Listening to Hurl is to inhale vibrant air that tends on the dark, and which is interspersed with violent moments of introspection that throw the listener--and presumably the musicians--into a dimension of unconsciousness." While a bit melodramatic and loosely translated, the statement rings true.

Hurl recorded their record "Not a Memory" over four days in the fall of 1996 in Chicago, IL with Bob Weston. "Not a Memory" is Hurl's "second and most challenging record,...an exercise in simultaneously forcing chaosand teetering on the edge of collapse." [Thank you Pillowfight Recordviews].

It was also the first authentic recorded testament to Hurl's frantic yet composed structure that had been contantly growing and refining itself into something unique over several singles and compilation tracks.
